About Heart Felt Arts

Hi! I am Kate! The Teaching Artist behind Heart Felt Arts. I love all things Arts, Science, Animals and Nature. I can frequently be found gardening or playing with all of the animals on my small farm. If I am not on the farm I am sure to have an art project on hand. Needle felting is a favorite one for me to grab on the go. I find this art to be so meditative; being able to focus on the feel of the wool, the sound of the needle poking away, the beautiful colors…and getting to stab away is quite therapeutic!

I source all of my wool locally and have met all of the lovingly cared for sheep. Rather than using the waste-wool that is left behind from making yarn, I personally make first pick on the best fibers, selecting them for their unique qualities to ease the felting processing and achieve the desired effect.

Using locally sourced wool also helps to reduce the environmental impact of making art. The animals providing the wool are cared for, the land they are on is well managed, and any waste I create in the process of making can break back down into the earth and even be used by other animals in making nests, without causing them harm.
